In a bizarre collaboration that defies traditional forecasts, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game collaboration between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The surprising holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Questline Disclosed

According to the official statement, "A mysterious encounter draws protagonists Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where rumors of forbidden practices and monstrous changes echo through the obscurity." The plot presents a "oddly dressed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her ally from a clandestine sect.

The mission focuses on "strange experiments and a fearsome enemy" and is available to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Familiar Locations and Transformations

The trailer highlights the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer concludes with a powerful sequence showing a character, presumably the hostage, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Additional Features

Players who finish the mission will receive an unique katana together with several items concealed throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based costume for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Special implements
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Content

This update also brings the game's third no-cost story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This playful mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature skills: Naoe debuts a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also includes a original environmental puzzle that may ultimately explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Past Anime Crossovers

This represents scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series formerly included a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla informally included a quest that clearly referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
