“That was regrettable. It was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “There was a large group of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the gesture was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just put up the wrong digit,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”
