Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
